Apologetics Series

Welcome to this short video series with Dan Paterson, presented by the Tinsley Institute.  

Dan is the founder of Questioning Christianity, with extensive experience as a pastor, lecturer, and public speaker. In this series, Dan will address key questions about the Christian faith, such as: Why believe in God? Why believe the Bible? How can a good God let bad things happen? And what are the ground rules for having better “God-conversations”? There are also discussion questions provided after each video, along with some suggestions for when you might find more information.

Course Overview  

Session 1: 

Be Prepared to Give an Answer  

• Gain a clear understanding of what apologetics is and why it matters in contemporary discussions about faith.
• Explore four compelling reasons why studying apologetics is essential for believers today.

Session 2: 

Why Believe in God? 

• Explore reasons for believing in the existence of God

• Reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of various arguments for God's existence, deepening your own understanding of faith.

Session 3: 

Why Believe in Jesus 

• Explore five key reasons why belief in Jesus is foundational to the Christian faith.
• Consider how the character, teachings, miracles, and resurrection of Jesus provide compelling evidence for his identity as the Son of God.

Session 4: 

Why Believe in the Bible 

• Investigate the historical reliability of the Bible and its relevance for contemporary believers.
• Reflect on fifteen reasons to trust the Bible, gaining insights into its coherence, accuracy, and transformative power.

Session 5: 

The Problem of Evil

• Addressing the question of why bad things happen in a world created by a good God
• Explore  different perspectives on the problem of evil and suffering
• Consider how Christian theology offers unique insights into the nature of suffering and the redemptive power of Christ's sacrifice.

Session 6: 

Ground Rules for Better God Conversations 

• Dan’s ten commandments for engaging in meaningful discussions about God
• Learn practical strategies for initiating and navigating conversations about faith with friends, family, and skeptics
• Gain valuable insights into effective communication techniques and respectful dialogue, enhancing your ability to share your beliefs with others.
